Xander Schauffele Climbs Baycurrent Classic Leaderboard, Eyes First Win in a Year

On Friday, Schauffele delivered an impressive performance, scoring an eight-under 63 at Yokohama Country Club. His round was flawless, featuring five birdies on the front nine and three more on the back nine.

Max Greyserman leads the tournament at 12-under overall, matching Schauffele’s score on Friday. Schauffele is currently tied for second place, alongside Alex Smalley and Alex Noren, all at eight-under. Below them, Sahith Theegala and Si Woo Kim are among four players sitting one shot back.

Reflecting on his second round in Japan, Schauffele stated, “Yesterday, it felt like you were just trying to survive the round. Today, there was almost no wind, which was advantageous.”

Prior to the Baycurrent Classic, Schauffele’s last PGA Tour appearance was at the BMW Championship in August, where he finished just inside the top 30. The 31-year-old also represented the USA in a closely contested Ryder Cup against Europe at Bethpage Black in New York.
