Kristen Stewart’s ‘The Chronology of Water’ Premieres in Thessaloniki

The Thessaloniki Film Festival has announced Kristen Stewart’s debut feature, “The Chronology of Water,” is set to premiere as part of the Film Forward competition. This event aims to showcase boundary-breaking cinema, and this year features 12 innovative films, including Stewart’s highly anticipated project.

About The Chronology of Water

“The Chronology of Water” is based on Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir, depicting a woman’s journey through trauma and resilience. After enduring an abusive childhood, the protagonist finds solace in competitive swimming, explores toxic relationships, and ultimately embraces her passion for writing.

A Star-Studded Cast

The film features a talented cast led by Imogen Poots, who portrays Yuknavitch. The supporting ensemble includes:

Thessaloniki Film Festival Details

The 2025 Thessaloniki International Film Festival will occur from October 30th to November 9th. The competition jury comprises notable figures, including choreographer Constanza Macras and filmmaker Christos Massalas.

Prizes and Recognition

The Film Forward competition awards include:

  • Golden Alexander: Best Feature Film Award with an €8,000 cash prize.
  • Silver Alexander: Best Direction Award with a €4,000 cash prize.

“The Chronology of Water” was previously featured at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section. It has secured international distribution through various companies, including:
