Browns Reveal Shedeur Sanders’ Position on Depth Chart

Shedeur Sanders has achieved a significant milestone in his professional football career. The Cleveland Browns have announced that he will serve as the team’s No. 2 quarterback, backing up Dillon Gabriel. This decision comes ahead of their upcoming road game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Browns Depth Chart Changes: Shedeur Sanders Takes No. 2 Spot

Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Sanders’ promotion during a press briefing on Friday. Previously, there was speculation regarding whether practice squad quarterback Bailey Zappe would be elevated to backup following Joe Flacco’s recent trade to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Coach’s Statement on the Decision

“Shedeur will be the backup,” Stefanski stated. “I’m always thinking about our players and what’s best for them. Particularly at the quarterback position, we must be intentional in our decision-making.” He expressed excitement for all players involved, emphasizing the importance of being prepared when called upon.

Shedeur Sanders’ Journey

Sanders, who is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, began the training camp as the team’s fourth quarterback. Despite limited practice opportunities and a competitive quarterback roster, he secured a place on the 53-man roster. Notably, the Browns released Tyler Huntley earlier this season, and Kenny Pickett was traded to the Raiders.

The Starting Quarterback Situation

Joe Flacco, who started the first four games for the Browns, faced challenges, finishing with a record of 1-3. He was benched in favor of Dillon Gabriel, who is set to make his second start against the Steelers. Sanders has expressed his readiness to support his teammates and contribute in any way the coaching staff sees fit.

Game Preparation and Player Readiness

Sanders emphasized the importance of preparation, stating, “We will ensure Dillon is ready for the game, regardless of the situation.” He affirmed his confidence in his abilities, highlighting his eagerness to play.

  • Position: No. 2 Quarterback
  • Starter: Dillon Gabriel
  • Previous Starter: Joe Flacco (1-3 record)
  • Opposing Team: Pittsburgh Steelers

This promotion marks an important step in Sanders’ rookie season and sets the stage for his development within the Browns organization.
