OPP Seizes Over $10M in Tobacco from Illegal Facility

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently dismantled an illegal tobacco manufacturing operation, seizing over $10 million in contraband tobacco. This action was part of an investigation called Project Track, which commenced in April.
Details of the Operation
The police executed search warrants on June 11 at various locations, including:
- A residence in Hamilton
- A large-scale manufacturing facility
- A vehicle on Six Nations of the Grand River territory
During these searches, law enforcement recovered substantial amounts of tobacco products:
- Over 40,000 kilograms of contraband tobacco
- 300 kilograms of shisha tobacco
- Five complete cigarette manufacturing lines
- Three stolen vehicles
Authorities also confiscated a handgun, approximately $25,000 in cash, and various tobacco packaging materials. The street value of the seized tobacco exceeds $10 million.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Two Hamilton men have been charged as a result of this operation. The charges include:
- Trafficking contraband tobacco
- Possession of tobacco manufacturing equipment
- Manufacturing tobacco products without a license
- Unlawful possession or sale of tobacco products
Both individuals have been released following bail hearings. They are set to appear in court in July. The investigation is still ongoing, with 13 foreign nationals also located as part of the operation.
The Canada Border Services Agency is actively involved in this case.
