Tropical System May Impact Central Alabama: First Alert Weather

Central Alabama experienced a noticeable shift in weather conditions recently. On Tuesday, temperatures were cooler but humidity levels rose, with dewpoints reaching the 70s. These conditions gave the area a tropical feel.
Tropical System May Impact Central Alabama
The weather will become increasingly significant as a tropical system approaches from the northwestern Gulf. As it moves inland, Central Alabama can expect an influx of deep tropical moisture, leading to potential heavy rainfall from Thursday through Friday.
Flood Watch Issued
With the arrival of this tropical system, a Flood Watch will be effective from 7 a.m. Thursday to 7 p.m. Friday for the southern regions of the viewing area.
- Expected Rainfall: Northern Alabama may see about 2 inches, while southern regions could receive over 5 inches.
- Flood Concerns: The greatest risk is flash flooding in southern counties.
- Tornado Risk: An isolated tornado is possible, particularly in the southern parts of the state.
Weather Forecast for the Week
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are anticipated on Wednesday as temperatures rise back into the 80s. These storms are typical for this time of year, moving from southwest to northeast.
Rain chances will remain elevated through Friday, impacting outdoor plans, especially during Juneteenth.
Post-Tropical System Weather Outlook
Conditions are expected to improve by Saturday, with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will reach the upper 80s, with only a few isolated afternoon storms predicted. A return to typical summer weather, with scattered afternoon showers, is expected early next week.
Gulf Coast Weather Conditions
Along the Gulf Coast, an unsettled weather pattern will persist throughout the week, with rain and thunderstorms expected. Flood Watches remain in effect, along with a high risk of rip currents at local beaches.
While the threat of severe wind from the tropical system appears minimal, heavy downpours and isolated tornadoes cannot be dismissed as possibilities beginning Thursday.
By Father’s Day, rain chances will decrease to about 40%, with drier weather anticipated early next week.
