The Northeast region of the United States has emerged as the epicenter of ice cream enthusiasm, as detailed in a recent analysis of Google search trends. Conducted by Innerbody Research, this study examined search behavior across all 50 states and Washington, D.C., from April 2025 to April 2026.
New Jersey: The Top State for Ice Cream Enthusiasts
According to the research, New Jersey is crowned as America’s most ice cream-obsessed state. This finding highlights a widespread fascination with ice cream in the region. Neighboring states in the Northeast, such as Delaware, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York, also show significant interest in ice cream-related searches. In fact, seven out of the top ten states for ice cream searches are located on the East Coast, with New Hampshire and Maine also making strong showings at sixth and eighth, respectively.

Ice Cream Flavor Preferences
The study revealed strawberry as the most searched-for ice cream flavor nationwide. Other popular flavors include chocolate chip and cookie dough, outpacing traditional favorites like plain chocolate and vanilla. However, purchasing trends tell a different story. A 2025 report by Instacart indicated that vanilla was the most-ordered ice cream flavor for the summer of 2024, capturing 27% of sales, trailed by chocolate and cookies and cream.
Regional Preferences in Ice Cream
In contrast, a survey by the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) identified chocolate as America’s favorite flavor, confirmed in their biannual National Ice Cream & Frozen Novelty Trends Survey released in April. Butter pecan and vanilla followed closely behind.
