Mondou’s promotion comes under the guidance of Alexander Steen, the team’s new General Manager who succeeded Doug Armstrong. Mondou previously had a close working relationship with Armstrong, particularly through Hockey Canada. However, it remains uncertain how his responsibilities will adapt under Steen’s leadership.
Coaching Background
Jim Montgomery has been the head coach of the Blues since November 2024, and he has worked closely with Mondou for nearly two seasons. Montgomery praised Mondou’s hockey intellect, stating, “Elliott is an extremely bright hockey mind who understands how to blend data with gameplay.” He expressed that Mondou’s absence will be felt within the staff.

Mondou began his journey in hockey at the age of 15. He gained experience with the Shawinigan Cataractes, where his father, Martin Mondou, serves as General Manager. His talent caught the attention of Hockey Canada, leading to opportunities with the national team during the 2022 and 2026 Olympic tournaments.
New Additions to the Coaching Staff
- Jérémy Coupal: Coupal, a fellow Quebecer, will replace Mondou as the video coach. He previously worked with the Nashville Predators and the Edmonton Oilers.
- Greg Cronin: Cronin joins as one of Montgomery’s two new assistants. He has coaching experience in the AHL with the Iowa Wild and the Anaheim Ducks.
- Vaclav Prospal: Prospal secures his first NHL coaching role after several seasons in the AHL and Europe. He is a former player with over 1,100 NHL games to his name.
