G1 Driver Faces Multiple Charges After Traffic Stop

A G1 driver in Dryden is facing several charges and a seven-day suspension of his license following a traffic stop conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The traffic stop occurred at around 4 p.m. on June 10. OPP officers noticed a vehicle being driven erratically, prompting the stop.
Discovery During the Traffic Stop
Upon stopping the vehicle, officers conducted a search in accordance with the Cannabis Control Act. The search revealed:
- A cannabis vape in the center console
- An open beer can underneath the passenger seat
- An open bottle of whiskey in the rear of the vehicle
Charges Faced by the Driver
The driver, a 40-year-old man from Vermilion Bay, faces multiple charges, including:
- Operating a vehicle as a G1 driver without an accompanying driver
- Driving with a blood alcohol concentration above the zero limit for novice drivers
- Having alcohol and cannabis readily available in the vehicle
Legal Implications for Novice Drivers
In Ontario, novice and commercial vehicle drivers are required to maintain a blood alcohol concentration of 0 mg per 100 ml of blood. The driver’s license will be suspended for seven days as a result of these infractions.
