Raleigh is buzzing with excitement as fans rally behind the Carolina Hurricanes. Among the passionate supporters is Janet Koehler, who recently relocated to be closer to her beloved team.
Caniac Relocates to Raleigh for the Carolina Hurricanes
Janet Koehler’s journey began less than a year ago when she attended her first Hurricanes game. Living in Topsail, Koehler had a life filled with beaches and Pilates but yearned for more. Her sons had invited her to a Canes game around Thanksgiving. Despite being surprised by the $140 ticket price, she decided to go.
After attending the game, Koehler was captivated by the electric atmosphere. “I fell instantly in love. I thought, I want more of this in my life,” she recalled. This newfound passion led her to pivot her life dramatically.
Making the Move
To embrace her hockey enthusiasm, Koehler traded her beach life for a new home in Raleigh. “I didn’t want to have to drive two hours there and back for every game, so I moved here,” she explained.
- Koehler purchased season tickets to ensure she would not miss any games.
- As a new resident, she is still getting familiar with Raleigh and its attractions, including the Lenovo Center.
- She has also participated in various tailgates, playoff games, and watch parties.
Her bravery in moving and diving headfirst into the world of hockey has paid off. Koehler expressed her excitement, stating, “I’m just beyond excited. It’s definitely worth it, 100%.”
Building Community
Through her journey, Koehler has fostered connections with fellow fans, especially through the Ladies of the Hurricanes, a group celebrating female supporters of the team. She believes strongly that women can passionately enjoy hockey. “Women can love hockey too. And we can enjoy this sport and learn about the sport,” she stated.
While still unpacking in her new home, Koehler has decorated her space with rally towels and pucks, showcasing her growing commitment to the Hurricanes.
A Fan for Life
Janet Koehler has also gained a following on social media, where she shares content about her favorite player, Seth Jarvis. She admires his resilience and positive spirit, feeling a sense of protectiveness over him. “I feel like his mom that he doesn’t know he has,” Koehler joked.
As the Carolina Hurricanes prepare for Game 6 in Las Vegas, Koehler’s enthusiasm remains contagious. She urges all fans to stand with the team. “We are 100% behind you Canes, we are here, we are rooting you on and we want to see you win the Cup,” Koehler affirmed.
