In a riveting match between two top-ten players, Shelton secured the win with scores of 6:4, 2:6, and 6:4. At just 23 years old, Shelton’s latest victory adds to his growing professional portfolio, bringing his total career titles to six.
Fritz’s Previous Success and Record
Fritz, ranked number one in the tournament, was the defending champion, having won the Stuttgart title the previous year. Across his career, he has achieved five titles on grass, one of the fastest surfaces in tennis. Only Novak Djokovic, the Grand Slam record holder from Serbia, has more grass court titles among active players, with a total of eight.
Notable Absences and Early Exits
- Alexander Zverev, last year’s finalist, withdrew from the tournament due to his recent success at the French Open.
- Zverev will next compete in Halle/Westfalen as he prepares for Wimbledon (June 29 to July 12).
- None of the German singles players advanced to the quarterfinals in Stuttgart, despite competing for a prize pool of €757,320.
Doubles Success for German Players
Despite a disappointing singles performance, German players Jan-Lennard Struff and Yannick Hanfmann claimed the doubles title. They achieved this by winning a three-set match against Greece’s Stefanos Sakellaridis and Estonia’s Daniil Glinka.
