Russell Claims Pole for Exciting Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix

George Russell of Mercedes has secured pole position for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. This marks Russell’s 10th career pole. Despite this achievement, he slipped to third place in the drivers’ championship after finishing 12th in the Monaco Grand Prix last week. He hasn’t earned points in the last two races.
Current Championship Standings
Russell’s teammate, Kimi Antonelli, will start in third place. Antonelli continues to lead the drivers’ championship but is not starting from the front row for the first time this season. He has claimed victory in the last five races and maintains a significant 66-point lead over Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari.

The reigning world champion, Lando Norris, will start the race from fourth position. Both Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar occupy the third row with fifth and sixth places, respectively. Oscar Piastri, last year’s race winner, will begin from seventh.
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, who starts from P18, hinted that this may be his last race in Barcelona. The 44-year-old driver is the only Spanish Formula 1 champion and has yet to sign a contract for the next season.
