Essential Details for World Cup Spectators
Mayor Ken Sim expressed his enthusiasm for the event, which promises to be a highlight for the city. Here’s what you need to know to make the most of your World Cup experience.
Transportation Recommendations
With the influx of visitors, getting around Vancouver presents some challenges. Organizers advise walking, biking, or using public transport to navigate the downtown area.
- Granville Street is closed to traffic, transformed into a pedestrian zone until late July.
- Pacific Boulevard is also closed, creating a spectator route from the SkyTrain to B.C. Place.
- Additional road closures include sections of Expo Boulevard, Quebec Street, Beatty Street, and Keefer Street on game days.
To facilitate movement, TransLink has introduced two temporary bus routes. One route loops downtown, while the other connects the SkyTrain with the Fan Festival at the PNE.
World Cup Festivities
The FIFA Fan Festival opens at the PNE amphitheatre on game days. Attendees can enjoy live broadcasts of matches, food and beverage options, and live entertainment.
- The Granville Street pedestrian zone features themed blocks with expanded patios and photo opportunities.
- Local establishments will host various watch parties, accommodating fans without game tickets.
Notably, both Turkish and Australian fans are ready to celebrate. A fan march organized by the Turkish consulate departs from Jonathan Rogers Park at 5:00 p.m. PT on Saturday. Meanwhile, an Australian-themed party at Dublin Calling will take place at 6:20 p.m. PT.
