Vale Youth Service Attends Buckingham Palace Event

The 70th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) was celebrated at a significant event held at Buckingham Palace. This prestigious gathering attracted youth organisations, supporters, and participants from throughout the UK, all coming together to commemorate seven decades of impactful service for young people.
Impact of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
The event featured powerful stories shared by award participants and guest speakers, highlighting the transformative effects of the DofE programme. Hannah Brown, DofE manager for the Vale of Glamorgan, emphasized the programme’s far-reaching benefits.
- “The DofE is so much more than a certificate,” she stated.
- She added that young people often leave the programme feeling more confident and proud of their accomplishments.
Building Resilience and Community Involvement
Brown noted that the DofE fosters resilience through challenging experiences, such as rainy expedition weekends and community volunteer hours. These moments help youth realize their potential, aligning with the Vale 2030 ambitions to provide every young person with a strong start in life.
Inclusivity and Future Initiatives
Vale DofE coordinator Annette Harrison shared that the programme is open to individuals aged 14 to 24, regardless of background or experience. Harrison remarked on the milestone, stating, “This is a huge opportunity for our young people.”
Looking ahead, the Vale Youth Service plans to launch a new Gold DofE group in September 2026, further expanding opportunities for local youth.
Recognition of Vale Youth Service
Councillor Rhiannon Birch expressed pride in the Vale Youth Service’s recognition at this national celebration. She acknowledged the importance of their involvement in the historic milestone of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
