Recent data reveals a significant increase in the demand for protected housing in Arousa. As of the latest figures, 875 individuals are now registered in the autonomous housing registry, a doubling from the 454 applicants recorded in June 2025.

Notably, the preference among applicants has shifted from buying to renting. Currently, 290 individuals in Vilagarcía favor renting, while only 85 opted for purchase. Additionally, 127 have chosen the rent-to-own option.
Arousa’s Municipalities Overview
The increase in demand is not limited to Vilagarcía. All municipalities in O Salnés and Ullán, except for Ribadumia, have seen a rise in the number of applicants:
- Sanxenxo: 155 demandants (up from 46)
- Cambados: 36 (up from 22)
- Vilanova: 26 (up from 10)
- Ribadumia: 25 (down by 1)

Future Housing Projects in Vilagarcía
Vilagarcía is at the forefront of public housing initiatives. The Xunta de Galicia has launched two major projects: one in As Carolinas and another in Marxión.
- As Carolinas Project: Covers 6.2 hectares and has been declared of Autonomous Interest, with construction expected to commence by 2028.
- Marxión Project: Involves a small urbanization of 10 homes, with an execution timeline of 18 months, anticipated completion by mid-2028.
