Canucks Appoint Richard Seeley as Abbotsford GM and Vancouver AGM
The Vancouver Canucks have officially appointed Richard Seeley as the new General Manager of the Abbotsford Canucks, while also serving as Assistant General Manager for the Vancouver Canucks. This decision was announced by Ryan Johnson, the General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks.
Richard Seeley’s Experience and Achievements
Johnson expressed his admiration for Seeley’s capabilities, particularly highlighting his tenure with the Ontario Reign in the AHL. Seeley has spent the past eight seasons as their General Manager, where he made significant achievements.
- Led the Ontario Reign to a historic 2022-2023 season.
- Secured the Pacific Division regular season title.
- Achieved a franchise-best record of 47 wins, 20 losses, 3 overtime losses, and 2 shootout losses, totaling 99 points.
Under Seeley’s leadership, the Ontario Reign set multiple franchise records, including:
- Most regular season wins (47)
- Highest points total (99)
- Best winning percentage (.688)
- Most home wins (26)
- Longest point streak (11 games)
Previous Roles and Contributions
Before his time with the Reign, Seeley was the Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the ECHL’s Manchester Monarchs for three years. During his tenure there, he achieved:
- A record of 117 wins, 73 losses, and 26 overtime losses.
- Qualification for the Kelly Cup Playoffs each season, including a deep run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2017.
Seeley was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the sixth round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. A native of Powell River, BC, he has appeared in 340 games within the Kings system and served as captain for the Monarchs during the 2003-04 and 2005-06 seasons.
