Southern 100 Classic Race Announced as Sidecar Replacement

The Southern 100 has announced a classic race to replace the modern sidecar class for this year’s event, providing an alternative for competitors and fans alike.

Overview of the Southern 100 Classic Race

This classic race will feature historic machines previously seen during the Pre-TT Classic races in late May. Organizers emphasized that the upcoming races will adhere to established technical regulations for classic vehicles.

Technical Regulations and Conditions

  • Classic machines lack complex prototype features.
  • They do not utilize flat-floor designs common in modern bikes.
  • Consequently, they are not impacted by the current regulatory pause for modern classes.

Clerk of the course, Giles Olley, expressed the club’s disappointment over pausing the modern sidecar class this year. However, he highlighted that the introduction of the classic race emerged from discussions among teams in the paddock.

Call for Participation

Olley stated, “The message from the club is clear – if the teams enter and we can build a viable grid, the races will go ahead.” He extended a warm invitation to newcomers, indicating that their participation is not only welcome but encouraged.

This replacement of the sidecar class with a classic race showcases the club’s commitment to innovation while ensuring the event remains engaging for all participants and spectators.
