Bpifrance, Mistral, MGX Expand AI Campus to 3 GW Nationally

In a landmark announcement made during the Choose France Summit, attended by Emmanuel Macron and Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the Campus AI initiative aims to expand its capacity to 3 GW in France. This development represents a significant increase in investment from the consortium, which includes Bpifrance, Mistral, MGX, and NVIDIA.

National Expansion of AI Infrastructure

The expansion extends beyond the key site in Fouju, Seine-et-Marne, which is currently under development with community support. Each new facility will adhere to high environmental standards, featuring waterless cooling systems and energy-efficient designs powered by France’s largely decarbonized electricity mix.

Mistral’s Role in Campus AI

Mistral AI, as a shareholder of Campus AI, will receive priority access to the computational capabilities across all sites. This growth is expected to create thousands of jobs in France and will leverage contributions from leading French industries in energy, batteries, semiconductors, and electronics to strengthen the entire industrial value chain.

Vision for the Future

Thibaud Desfossés, President of Campus AI, emphasized that France’s energy, talent, and research base position it as a leader in AI within Europe. His vision includes a commitment that every gigawatt of computational capacity will enhance value in France, rather than just passing through. He stated, “An open platform built with our industrial and territorial partners will enable French suppliers to thrive, providing scale to the champions of AI.”

About Campus AI

Campus AI is a joint venture formed by MGX, Bpifrance, Mistral AI, and NVIDIA, aiming to establish next-generation computing infrastructure for France and Europe, thereby contributing to European digital sovereignty. This ambitious project was announced at the Choose France Summit in May 2025.

About Bpifrance and MGX

  • MGX: A global technology investment firm focused on accelerating the development of AI and advanced technologies, investing in sectors such as semiconductors, infrastructure, software, life sciences, and automation.

This expansion not only marks a pivotal moment for computational capacity in France but also reinforces the nation’s commitment to leading in artificial intelligence development. With the backing of significant industrial partners, Campus AI is poised to become a cornerstone of Europe’s digital future.
