Prime Video to Stream HBO Max in New Zealand

HBO Max is set to launch on Prime Video in New Zealand this June. The service will be available from June 16, expanding its reach in the global market.
Launch Details of HBO Max
The HBO Max service will be accessible through Prime Video, even for those without Amazon subscriptions. Two subscription plans will be offered:
- Standard Plan: Reduced from $15.99 to $10.99 per month for early sign-ups.
- Premium Plan: Offered at $15.99, down from $20.99, for early subscribers.
Exciting Content to Look Forward To
The rollout of HBO Max comes just ahead of Season 3 of “House of the Dragon.” This series is expected to be one of the standout television premieres of the year.
In addition to “House of the Dragon,” HBO Max will feature a variety of programs, including:
- “Lanterns” – a new DC series
- “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” – a comedy series
- “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” – a TV series set to debut in December
- Popular shows like “Euphoria,” “Succession,” and “The White Lotus”
- Classic films including the “Harry Potter” series and other Warner Bros. titles
Partnership Insights
Shonali Bedi, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Head of Strategy, Partnerships, and Insights (APAC), expressed enthusiasm about the launch. She emphasized the strong partnership with Prime Video and noted the service’s success in other regions, including Australia.
Content Transition from Sky New Zealand
Previously, HBO Max content was distributed through Sky New Zealand. In February, Sky announced it would not pursue a co-exclusive arrangement as Warner Bros. Discovery prepared its direct-to-consumer launch.
Prime Video’s Expanding Library
Prime Video currently offers content from 25 subscription partners in New Zealand. It also features Amazon MGM Originals, including:
- “The Boys”
- “The Summer I Turned Pretty”
- “The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power”
Alexandra Gilbert, Head of Content for Prime Video Australia and New Zealand, highlighted HBO Max as the 26th subscription service offered on the platform. She noted that this addition enhances the entertainment options available to customers, all within a single app.
