Netflix and Sony Animation Unveil ‘Ghostbusters: Night Shift’ Series Title and Logo

The iconic franchise Ghostbusters continues to expand with exciting new developments. In celebration of Ghostbusters Day, which marks the anniversary of the original 1984 film’s release, Sony Pictures hosted an event at Hook & Ladder 8 firehouse in New York City. This historic site has long served as both the fictional headquarters of the Ghostbusters and a key filming location.

Netflix and Sony Animation Reveal ‘Ghostbusters: Night Shift’

During the event, showrunners Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan, alongside Ghost Corps executives Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, unveiled the official title and logo for an upcoming animated series: “Ghostbusters: Night Shift.” The series is scheduled for release in 2027, promising to bring fresh stories to the beloved franchise.

Charitable Efforts Highlighted

Sony Pictures proudly recognized the success of the yearlong “Ghostbusters Give Back” initiative, which exceeded a $500,000 fundraising goal. To honor the top contributors, “Golden Trap” awards were presented to:

  • Buffalo Ghostbusters – $67,000
  • Los Angeles Ghostbusters – $65,000
  • Ghostbusters Virginia – $30,000

Additionally, a matching donation of $150,000 was presented to the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Jay Levine, EVP and Chief Strategy Officer & Business Operations at Sony Pictures, made the presentation alongside Reitman and Kenan. Levine emphasized the franchise’s commitment to community support and philanthropy.

A Legacy of Ghostbusters

The original Ghostbusters film, directed by Ivan Reitman, featured stars such as Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. It became a box office sensation, grossing nearly $300 million worldwide and leading to several sequels, including:

  • Ghostbusters II (1989)
  • Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016)
  • Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
  • Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024)
