Carmel Cinemas Reopens After Year-Long Closure in Putnam County

Carmel Cinemas has officially reopened its doors in Putnam County after a year-long closure. The cinema, located at 150 Route 52 in the Carmel ShopRite Plaza, welcomed movie enthusiasts back on June 5. This reopening marks the return of a beloved local entertainment venue that had been closed since May 2025.
Carmel Cinemas Returns Under New Ownership
Box Office Cinemas now owns Carmel Cinemas, which previously operated for 15 years before its closure in 2025. The theater shut down after its owners announced the closure in April of that year, leaving many residents disappointed.
Community Support on Opening Day
On the opening day, Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne visited the cinema. He met with the new management team and congratulated them on the reopening. “I was especially happy to hear that many of the theater’s longtime employees have returned,” Byrne commented. He also noted that popular programs, such as senior discounts and Discount Tuesdays, will continue.
Movie Schedule and Special Offerings
The first weekend of screenings features a diverse lineup, including:
- Backrooms
- Masters of the Universe
- The Mandalorian and Grogu
- Scary Movie 6
Future Initiatives and Grand Opening Plans
Byrne discussed potential future partnerships with theater management. Plans for sensory-friendly screenings for children on the autism spectrum and families with special needs are in consideration through the county’s ThinkDIFFERENTLY initiative. Although a formal grand opening celebration is planned for the coming weeks, the theater is already operational.
Carmel Cinemas aims to reclaim its status as a local entertainment hub for movie lovers in Putnam County.
