UBS Arena has been selected to host the 2027 NHL All-Star Weekend, marking a significant milestone for the venue and the New York Islanders. This prestigious event, termed a “tentpole event,” will showcase the league’s top talent and provide fans with an exhilarating experience.
Exciting New Format for All-Star Weekend
The upcoming All-Star Weekend will introduce a revamped format featuring a skills competition. It will spotlight ten budding stars, all aged 25 and under, who will compete across six of eight chosen events. These events have been meticulously selected by the NHL and NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA).
Highlighting Young Talent
Among these rising stars is 18-year-old defenseman Matthew Schaefer of the Islanders. Schaefer recently won the Calder Trophy, awarded to the league’s top rookie. He achieved an impressive 59 points during the season, comprising 23 goals and 36 assists in 82 games.

That event, held in 1983 at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, featured the Campbell Conference All-Stars defeating the Wales Conference All-Stars with a score of 9-3. Wayne Gretzky was honored as the event’s most valuable player.
