Werenski Secures Norris Trophy as NHL’s Best Defenseman

Zach Werenski has been awarded the Norris Trophy, recognizing him as the NHL’s best defenseman for the 2025-2026 season. This prestigious honor is given to the player who demonstrates exceptional all-around ability in the position. Werenski, who plays for the Columbus Blue Jackets, garnered a total of 1,589 points, outperforming Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche, who received 1,191 points.

At 28 years old, Werenski showed remarkable skill, leading Makar in first-place votes by a significant margin of 113 to 47. Rasmus Dahlin of the Buffalo Sabres ranked third in the voting, with Evan Bouchard of the Edmonton Oilers placing fourth. The top five included:
