Actor and Bodybuilder Varinder Ghuman Passes Away at 42

Varinder Singh Ghuman, a celebrated bodybuilder and actor from Jalandhar, passed away at the age of 42. He succumbed to complications during treatment at Fortis Hospital in Amritsar, where he was being treated for a muscle rupture in his chest.

Tragic Incident During Surgery

Ghuman experienced a cardiac arrest while undergoing shoulder surgery. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead around 5:30 PM. His unexpected death has left his friends and fans in shock.

Achievements in Bodybuilding

Ghuman was a heavyweight champion who competed in the 120 kg-plus category. His notable achievements included:

  • Winning the title of Mr. India in 2009.
  • Securing second place in the Mr. Asia contest.
  • Being the first Indian to earn an IFBB Pro Card.
  • Making history as the only Asian to compete in the Arnold Classic.

Career in Film

In addition to his bodybuilding career, Ghuman ventured into acting. His film credits include:

  • Debuting in the Punjabi film ‘Kabaddi Once More’ (2012).
  • Starring in Bollywood films such as ‘Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans’ (2014) and ‘Marjaavaan’ (2019).
  • Sharing the screen with Salman Khan in ‘Tiger 3’.

Early Life and Training

Born in Gurdaspur, Ghuman moved to Jalandhar to pursue his passion for bodybuilding. He trained under the guidance of his guru, Randhir Hastir, and owned a gym in Model Town, Jalandhar. His father, Bhupinder Singh, served as an assistant sub-inspector in the Punjab Police.

Senior Congress leader and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa remarked on Ghuman’s impressive contributions to the sport and his dedication.
