Helen Briscoe, a dedicated care worker from Hope, has recently experienced a remarkable honor. She was invited to a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace in recognition of her outstanding service to the community of Wrexham.
Meeting King Charles III
The 59-year-old head housekeeper at Pendine Park attended the event alongside Wrexham Mayor Cllr Tina Mannering. Together, they have supported over 500 civic engagements, underscoring their commitment to the community.
Reflecting on the experience, Ms. Briscoe expressed her astonishment at meeting King Charles III. She described the moment as “the stuff of dreams,” emphasizing how special it was for the King to engage with her and the Mayor amidst many VIPs. An especially touching moment occurred when Cllr Mannering highlighted the historic Lady Consort chain worn by Ms. Briscoe.
Significance of the Lady Consort Chain
The Lady Consort chain is an heirloom featuring gold and Tudor roses, adorned with a portrait of Queen Alexandra. Ms. Briscoe shared her pride in the piece, stating, “Wrexham Council is very proud to have such a beautiful piece among its Mayoral regalia.” She noted that only two of these specific chains exist, with the other belonging to the Royal family.
Recognizing Dedication to Community
Her invitation to the royal event came as a surprise, following a nomination based on her commitment to Wrexham. Mario Kreft MBE, the proprietor of Pendine Park, praised Ms. Briscoe’s dedication, noting her efficiency and commitment to making residents comfortable. He remarked, “It is wonderful to know that she has had the chance to enjoy such a Royal treat.”

During their time in London, Ms. Briscoe and Cllr Mannering explored notable sites, including Covent Garden and the National Gallery. One of the trip’s highlights was seeing Vincent Van Gogh’s iconic painting, Sunflowers, which deeply moved Ms. Briscoe.
