Brooke Henderson Embarks on Major Summer Tour with Cousin as Caddie
Brooke Henderson, a prominent figure in women’s golf, is making significant strides this summer. The Canadian golfer is competing in the ShopRite LPGA Classic, a tournament she previously won in 2022. This event, held at the Seaview Hotel and Golf Club’s Bay Course, is part of a crucial series of tournaments leading up to several major championships.
Transitioning to a New Caddie
This year marks a notable transition for Henderson. After her sister, Brittany, stepped away from her caddie role to prepare for motherhood with her husband, Zach Sepanik, Brooke has enlisted her cousin, Ryan, to take over caddying duties. Ryan has past experience working alongside both Henderson sisters, which has eased the change.
“It’s really been a big adjustment all year,” Brooke commented regarding her new dynamic on the course. “I’m really grateful to have my cousin on my bag. He’s just a lot of fun and a really great guy.”
Performance at the ShopRite LPGA Classic
Henderson started the ShopRite LPGA Classic with a score of 1-under 70, placing her tied for 31st. In contrast, Laetitia Beck, a former Duke University player, led the leaderboard with an impressive 8-under 63 on the opening day of the tournament. The ShopRite Classic is structured as a 54-hole event, and Henderson is aiming for a strong finish.
Continuing Bonds and Support
Despite the changes in her caddie situation, Henderson remains connected to her sister. They maintain a strong relationship, often discussing strategies and courses as Brooke travels for tournaments. “I’m asking her a lot of questions, and we enjoy going through the tournament courses like before we play them,” she shared. “She’s had so much experience on all these courses as well, so she’s still extremely valuable.”
Achievements and Future Goals
Brooke Henderson holds the title of the winningest Canadian golfer, boasting 14 LPGA victories, including two major championships. As she embarks on this summer tour with her cousin by her side, her focus remains on excelling in upcoming tournaments and solidifying her legacy in the sport.
