Luke Littler Nearly Quit Premier League Darts Due to Crowd Reaction

Luke Littler has once again demonstrated his dominance in Premier League Darts by finishing first in the standings for the third consecutive year. He reached the finals in each of these years, clinching victory twice. Littler set a new record for the most night wins during the league phase in 2025 and equaled that achievement in 2026.
However, despite his success, Littler revealed that he questioned his desire to continue in the tournament. He stated, “Even sat at home, I didn’t want to go out. I didn’t want to go to the next Premier League night but we’ve done it.” This sentiment highlights the emotional challenges that players face.
The Premier League Format
The Premier League Darts format spans 17 weeks, culminating in finals night. During this period, participants travel across the UK, Republic of Ireland, and Europe to compete every Thursday. The competition features eight players: the top four ranked players and four additional players invited by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).
Pressure on Players
Sky Sports pundit Wayne Mardle discussed the mental strain associated with the Premier League. He noted that “it is not a rarity for the Premier League to become too much,” pointing out that this intensive structure can affect even the most mentally resilient players. Mardle emphasized the importance of showing up and competing, regardless of mental fatigue.
- Current Titles Held by Littler:
- Premier League
- World Championship
- World Masters
- UK Open
Littler currently holds seven out of the eight ranking titles available from the PDC, reinforcing his status in the sport. Mardle remarked on Littler’s potential peak, suggesting that this level of performance is comparable to legends like Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor.
Looking Ahead
One of Littler’s upcoming challenges is the World Cup of Darts in June, where he will partner with Luke Humphries for England. Given their recent performances, expectations are high for success in this prestigious event.
