Romanian Prosecutors Expand Andrew Tate Investigation to Include Hate Speech Against Women

The investigation into Andrew Tate, a controversial social media personality, has intensified. Romanian prosecutors have expanded their inquiry to include allegations of hate speech against women. Initially arrested in December 2022, Tate and his brother Tristan face multiple charges, including human trafficking.
Tate Brothers’ Legal Troubles Deepen
Both brothers, who are former kickboxers with dual U.S. and British citizenship, have denied all allegations. The legal proceedings initially saw them held in custody, followed by house arrest. Eventually, those restrictions were eased to require only regular police check-ins. A Romanian court lifted all preventative measures against them in April.
New Charges of Hate Speech
Recently, prosecutors from Romania’s anti-organized crime unit, DIICOT, stated that the Tate brothers are now being charged with instigating hatred or discrimination. This development stems from various speeches made by Tate between 2021 and 2024, which prosecutors claim incited public hatred against women.
- Extended investigation ordered by DIICOT
- New charges include hate speech and discrimination
- Proceeds from speeches between 2021-2024 cited as evidence
Broader Criminal Charges
In addition to the new hate speech charges, the Tate brothers are facing serious accusations, including:
- Forming an organized criminal group
- Human trafficking
- Trafficking minors
- Sexual intercourse with a minor
- Money laundering
Tate has reacted to these developments, stating on social media that he is being targeted for speech-related offenses linked to his public persona. He argues that he is facing indictment as an American citizen over so-called speech violations.
Pending Legal Issues in the UK
Beyond the Romanian investigation, both Andrew and Tristan Tate also have pending arrests in the UK. Romanian courts have confirmed that they will be extradited to face charges after the completion of their current trial in Romania. Andrew Tate faces ten criminal charges in Britain, including rape and human trafficking.
Given the scope of these allegations and the heightened public interest, the legal proceedings against the Tate brothers continue to unfold. The expanding investigation into hate speech against women adds another layer to an already complex legal battle.
