MApN Reveals Type of Drone That Crashed on Galați Building

The Ministry of National Defense (MApN) confirmed on Friday morning that the drone that crashed into an apartment building in Galați was a Russian-made Geran-2. The Geran drones are based on the Iranian Shahed model. This incident took place on May 29.
Details of the Incident
Specialized teams from MApN, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Romanian Intelligence Service are currently investigating the crash site. Reports indicate that the drone’s entire payload exploded upon impact, resulting in injuries to two individuals.
Injuries and Response
- The injured were transported to the Clinical Emergency County Hospital in Galați.
- Authorities have urged citizens to adhere to safety recommendations and stay informed through official channels.
Security Concerns
MApN strongly condemned the actions of the Russian Federation, describing them as irresponsible and a serious threat to regional security. Authorities highlighted that such incidents undermine international law and pose risks not only to Romanian citizens but also to NATO’s collective security.
This event underscores the increasing tensions in the Black Sea region, as Russia has extensively deployed the Geran-2 drones against Ukraine since the onset of the conflict. The ongoing situation necessitates vigilance and a coordinated response from regional security forces.
