SGA Lawyers Demand Underdog Halt Board Game Promotion

Underdog, a company specializing in fantasy sports and predictions, has recently stirred controversy with its new board game, a parody of the classic game Operation named “Unethical Hoops.” This game features a cartoon-style representation of NBA star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, with the term “unethical” prominently displayed on his jersey. Instead of the traditional labels, the game includes terms like “head snap” and “push off.”
Collaboration with Dillon Brooks
To promote “Unethical Hoops,” Underdog teamed up with Dillon Brooks, a teammate of Gilgeous-Alexander on the Canadian national team. They released a promotional video announcing a contest centered around giving away the game.
Legal Concerns Raised by SGA’s Representation
The situation escalated when Eric Fishman, a lawyer from ArentFox Schiff LLP, sent a letter on May 22. This letter, which was obtained by Jones, demands the destruction of all copies of the game. It also requests that Underdog refrain from using Gilgeous-Alexander’s name, image, or likeness without his consent.
Response from Underdog
Underdog has chosen not to comment on the legal letter. The legal action occurs against the backdrop of Gilgeous-Alexander’s impressive performance, as he recently won his second consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. His playing style has drawn criticism from some observers.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s Performance Statistics
- Free Throws Made: 120
