Kris Sparre has been appointed as the inaugural head coach of the PWHL Hamilton expansion team, as announced on Wednesday. The decision comes as Sparre transitions from a successful coaching season with the Boston Fleet.
Kris Sparre’s Coaching Legacy
Sparre, aged 39, achieved significant success during his time with the Fleet. Under his leadership, the team finished fifth in the 2024-25 season, amassing 44 points. The following year, the Fleet made an impressive leap to second place, earning 62 points. This remarkable improvement was recognized when Sparre was a finalist for the PWHL Coach of the Year award.
General Manager’s Vision
Meghan Duggan, general manager of PWHL Hamilton, expressed enthusiasm about Sparre’s appointment. She emphasized his extensive hockey knowledge and leadership skills as ideal attributes for the role. “I wanted someone who aligns with my core values and can establish a culture and standard that players will want to be a part of,” Duggan noted. Hailing from Mississauga, Ontario, Sparre’s coaching career spans over a decade. His experience includes significant roles with the Niagara IceDogs and Flint Firebirds in the OHL, as well as coaching stints in Germany and with the AHL’s San Diego Gulls.
