Toronto Transit Disruption: 150 Kilometers Set to Close Entire Weekend

Commuters in Toronto should be prepared for significant transit disruptions this weekend. Metrolinx is set to close almost 150 kilometers of the regional transit network, affecting multiple GO lines.

Transit Closures Overview

The weekend closures will take place on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31, 2026. Here’s a breakdown of the affected services:

  • Barrie GO Line: Complete shutdown affecting 101 kilometers and 11 stations.
  • Lakeshore West GO Line: Closure of 45 kilometers and seven stations.

Barrie GO Line Details

Service on the Barrie GO Line will be entirely halted. Commuters can’t use the line over the weekend, with all 11 stations closed. To accommodate passengers, GO buses will replace train service between Allandale Waterfront GO and Highway 407 Bus Terminal.

For those traveling south of Highway 407, connections to the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will be available for continued travel.

Impact on Events

This disruption coincides with the final concerts of Bruno Mars at Rogers Stadium. Downsview GO Station will not be operational, making it challenging for concert-goers to reach the venue.

Lakeshore West GO Line Updates

The Lakeshore West Line will also be significantly affected. A 45-kilometer stretch will close, including seven stations from Aldershot to Mimico. Similar to the Barrie Line, affected passengers will be serviced by GO buses, which will stop at various locations:

  • West Harbour
  • Aldershot
  • Burlington
  • Oakville
  • Clarkson
  • Bramalea

At Bramalea GO, passengers can transfer to the Kitchener line for further travel towards Union Station.

Other Transit Options

Fortunately, for those not reliant on GO Transit, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has scheduled no major subway closures during this weekend. Thus, local commuters may find alternative transportation relatively unaffected.

Overall, commuters should plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys amid the weekend disruptions across the regional transit network.
