Cuba Gooding Jr. and Luke Ford Star in Action Thriller ‘Lotus’ (Exclusive)

ACT3, a Hong Kong-based company, and Blackops Studios Asia from the Philippines have announced their collaboration on a new action thriller titled “Lotus.” This film introduces a talented cast that includes Cuba Gooding Jr., Luke Ford, Keith Duffy, and multimedia artist Qymira. It is the inaugural project under a five-film slate deal between the two production companies.
Filming Details and Production Team
“Lotus” was officially presented to international buyers at the Cannes Film Market. Principal photography is set to take place from September to October in Manila, with additional scenes shot in Brazil.
Filipino filmmaker Pedring Lopez directs the film, having co-written the screenplay with collaborator Rex Lopez. Together, they also produce the project alongside Maia Yambao-Lopez. Leslie Loh serves as the executive producer for ACT3.

Luke Ford shared his appreciation for the grounded and unpredictable nature of the project. He highlighted the immersive qualities of both the story and the filming locations in Manila and Brazil.
Qymira added, “This film is bigger, darker, and more ambitious. It connects Manila and Brazil in a visceral way.” Her previous experiences in Brazil, including performances at the Salvador Carnival, will enrich her involvement in the film.
Production and Crew Details
Sonny Sison, a Filipino-American choreographer, will oversee stunt coordination, collaborating with both local and international teams. Cinematographer Noel Teehankee will lead the filming, with a diverse crew drawn from the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Brazil.
Future Projects
“Lotus” marks the first of five planned productions under the ACT3 and Blackops Studios Asia partnership. The next major project is the action epic “A Thread of Steel,” set to begin filming in China in 2028.
Lopez emphasized the film’s aim to appeal to a global audience while capturing the energy and chaos of Southeast Asia and Latin America. He aims for “Lotus” to evoke a sense of danger, emotion, and vitality, immersing viewers directly into its world.
