Royal Air Maroc Cancels Numerous Flights Between France and Morocco Ahead of Summer Peak

Royal Air Maroc, the national airline of Morocco, is undergoing significant changes in its flight schedules as peak summer season approaches. This year, the airline is implementing a substantial reduction in its flights between France and Morocco, marking a notable shift in its operational strategy.

Flight Cancellations Between France and Morocco

Over the summer months, Royal Air Maroc will suspend several routes connecting France and Morocco. This suspension is reflective of a broader trend, as the rise in oil prices impacts the airline’s operations. The following French cities will see flights to Marrakech discontinued:

  • Bordeaux
  • Lyon
  • Marseille
  • Nantes
  • Toulouse

These routes typically operated with two flights per week and will be inactive from early July until mid-September. Additionally, the Brussels-Marrakech route will also be affected by these cancellations.

Changes to Existing Routes

Royal Air Maroc is also making adjustments to its flight frequencies. From Casablanca, flights to Montpellier will reduce from three to two weekly flights starting June 24 and continuing until October 24. Furthermore, the Casablanca-Zurich route will also decrease its frequency from three to two flights per week, beginning July 15.

Moreover, flights from Tangier to Spain will be reduced, affecting connections to Barcelona and Malaga. These limited services are expected to resume in October.

Shift Towards Sub-Saharan Africa

While decreasing its European routes, Royal Air Maroc is expanding its presence in sub-Saharan Africa. In June, the airline plans to increase its weekly flight frequencies to several African cities:

  • Abuja
  • Accra
  • Bamako
  • Cotonou
  • Douala
  • Lagos
  • Libreville
  • Lomé
  • Ouagadougou

This strategic shift is expected to enhance Royal Air Maroc’s connectivity and presence in the growing African market.
