South Korean Submarines Surface at Victoria Port

Two South Korean submarines recently surfaced at Victoria Port, British Columbia. Their arrival aims to bolster Hanwha’s bid for a lucrative contract from the Royal Canadian Navy.
Details of the South Korean Submarines’ Arrival
The submarines ROKS Dosan Ahn Changho (KSS-III) and ROKS Daejeon reached Victoria on a two-month journey. This visit marks a significant promotional effort by Hanwha as they seek to provide submarines to Canada.

A decision on the contract is expected in the coming weeks, with delivery scheduled for 2032.
Local Collaboration and Future Production
If awarded the contract, Hanwha plans to manufacture military vehicles within Canada. This collaboration will involve local automotive industries, enhancing the domestic economy.

- Rocket launch systems
- Infantry vehicles
Promotional Strategies in Canada
Hanwha is intensifying its presence in Canada through various marketing strategies. These efforts include promotional videos on YouTube and advertisements on billboards, aimed at showcasing the KSS-III submarine.
Canada’s Submarine Aspirations
The Canadian government is ultimately looking to acquire a fleet of 12 submarines to enhance its naval capabilities. The competition between Hanwha and other bidders like TKMS is part of this strategic expansion.
