Brondby Fires Coach Steve Cooper After Disappointing Danish Superliga Season

Brøndby IF has made a significant decision by parting ways with head coach Steve Cooper. This move comes in light of a disappointing season in the Danish Superliga.
Cooper’s Departure from Brøndby IF
The club announced the termination of Cooper’s contract effective immediately. His assistant, Alan Tate, will also leave the club, marking a shift in the coaching staff. Cooper had been at the helm since September 2022.
Performance Overview
During Cooper’s tenure, Brøndby experienced a season marked by inconsistency. The team finished in fourth place, which was not sufficient to secure a spot in the upcoming Conference League qualification. Their last match under Cooper resulted in a 1-3 loss against FC Copenhagen after extra time.
- Cooper’s Record: 28 matches
- Wins: 10
- Draws: 6
- Losses: 12
Board’s Statement on Coaching Changes
Scott McLachlan, vice-chairman of Brøndby’s board, provided insight into the decision. He expressed that the club had high hopes when hiring Cooper. Despite improvements in some areas, the overall results did not meet expectations, prompting the board’s decision.
New Leadership Structure
In addition to the coaching changes, Brøndby is also restructuring its sporting management. Julius Ohnesorge, who has served as technical director since the summer of 2025, will take over as the new director of football. He replaces Benjamin Schmedes, who has accepted a new role in the German league organization, DFL.
Brøndby IF is looking for a fresh direction as they prepare for the next season in the Danish Superliga. The hope is to build a stronger team with improved performance on the pitch.
