Storms and High Winds Sweep Across Cyprus: Weather Alert Issued

A weak low-pressure system interacting with an unstable air mass is currently affecting Cyprus. This combination has resulted in unsettled weather conditions across the island.
Weather Forecast for Cyprus
On Wednesday, the weather will begin with mostly cloudy skies. Localized showers are anticipated in various regions throughout the day. As midday arrives, cloud cover will further develop, leading to the likelihood of isolated thunderstorms. These thunderstorms will primarily affect mountainous areas and the eastern regions of the island. In stronger storms, hail is a distinct possibility.
Winds and Sea Conditions
Winds will shift from the southwest to northwest, initially blowing at moderate to fresh levels—approximately force 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale. By the afternoon, these winds may strengthen to force 5 to 6. Gusts along southern coastal areas could reach force 7, resulting in blustery conditions. The sea will be slightly rough early on but is expected to become rougher later in the day.
Temperature Forecast
- Inland temperatures are expected to rise up to 26°C.
- Along the southern and eastern coasts, temperatures will hover around 24°C.
- Western and northern coastal areas can expect around 21°C.
- In higher mountain regions, temperatures will be lower, reaching 16°C.
As night falls, increased cloud cover will persist, particularly in the western parts of the island. Isolated showers remain a possibility overnight. Winds will ease slightly but could still reach force 5 in coastal areas.
Overnight Conditions
- Inland temperatures will drop to around 13°C.
- Coastal areas will see temperatures of approximately 15°C.
- In higher mountain areas, temperatures may fall to 9°C.
Looking Ahead: Continued Unsettled Weather
Unsettled weather conditions are expected to persist through Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Intermittent cloud cover will lead to chances of isolated showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoons. Mountainous regions and the eastern parts of the island will be most affected.
Once again, hail is a possibility during thunderstorm activity. Although temperatures may slightly rise on Thursday, they are anticipated to dip again by Saturday, remaining below seasonal averages for this time of year. Residents should prepare for these changing weather conditions as the week progresses.
