Rideau Vert 2026-2027 Season: A Return to Tradition

Benoit McGinnis has unveiled his debut season as artistic director of Rideau Vert for 2026-2027. This 78th season features renowned characters and narratives, aimed at revisiting classic works. McGinnis will open the season on September 23 by portraying Cyrano de Bergerac, a choice he made to welcome the audience.

Highlighting Iconic Performances

McGinnis believes that actors are the core of theater. He aims to create electrifying experiences for the audience, focusing on remarkable performances from both Quebecois and international repertoires. He draws inspiration from notable performers like Sylvie Drapeau and Anne-Marie Cadieux, who influenced his passion for acting.

Key Productions for the Season

  • Cyrano de Bergerac: Featuring a shortened version of Edmond Rostand’s text, directed by René Richard Cyr.
  • Motel Hélène: Celebrating its 30th anniversary, featuring Anne-Élisabeth Bossé as Johanne, directed by Olivier Arteau.
  • Le Dieu du carnage: Yasmina Reza’s play with a cast including Éric Bruneau, directed by Serge Denoncourt.
  • Hedda Gabler: Ibsen’s tragedy, adapted by Patrick Marber and translated by Fanny Britt, featuring Sophie Cadieux.

Renovating Classic Formats

The Rideau Vert is reintroducing its Revue et corrigée format, under the direction of Léane Labrèche-Dor. Notably, Élise Guilbault will return to the stage after 15 years, serving as the host for the 2026 edition. This revival will focus on exceptional interpreters, akin to the traditions established by the venue’s first director, Yvette Brind’Amour.

Special Events in Store

  • Maude Guérin will lead the opening on November 7 and 8 with a reading-performance showcasing her previous and aspirational roles.

McGinnis has expressed that his vision for this season is not centered around social engagement but aims to evoke emotional connections within the audience. With a strong lineup featuring powerful characters, he hopes that attendees will leave with profound impressions.
