Russell Andrews Announces ALS Diagnosis
Russell Andrews, a well-known actor acclaimed for his roles in “Better Call Saul,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Insecure,” has shared his diagnosis of ALS. The announcement came during an interview on CNN’s “The Story Is with Elex Michaelson” this past weekend.
Andrews’ Journey with ALS
The 64-year-old actor revealed that he has been experiencing symptoms of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, since last fall. He described how overwhelming support from his new community has offered him comfort during this difficult time.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
Andrews began to feel the early signs of ALS symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic. He experienced unusual twitches and weakness, which he initially attributed to pinched nerves in his neck. Over time, these symptoms escalated, affecting his motor skills.
- Dropping cups and glasses
- Nighttime sensations in his arms
These challenges led him to seek a definitive diagnosis. Andrews mentioned, “It’s been humbling” to receive such support from friends and family, many of whom he met only recently.
Support from Fiancée
In the same interview, Andrews’ fiancée, Erica Tazel, expressed her calmness upon learning of his diagnosis. She noted that it clarified many of the concerns they had been discussing.
- Changes in daily activities, such as taking longer to clean the pool.
- Subtle differences in his walking style.
Tazel emphasized her commitment to their relationship despite the upcoming challenges, stating, “I still want to be your wife,” reaffirming her support as they navigate this journey together.
