Canucks Revamp Coaching Staff
In a significant shift for the Vancouver Canucks, General Manager Ryan Johnson announced the overhaul of the coaching staff. Head Coach Adam Foote and Assistant Coaches Scott Young, Kevin Dean, and Brett McLean have been relieved of their duties. This decision comes as the team embarks on a rebuilding phase.
Coaching Staff Changes
Ryan Johnson expressed gratitude toward the departing coaches. “It was a challenging year on several fronts,” he stated. “Adam and his staff were dealt a very difficult hand. That said, as we head into a rebuild, our group feels new coaching voices are needed to chart the path forward.”
Johnson emphasized the importance of establishing a positive culture within the team. He noted that the new coaching staff will need to instill essential traits and habits in the players as they prepare for the upcoming season.

- Adam Foote:
- 22nd Head Coach in Canucks history, appointed on May 14, 2025.
- Served as Assistant Coach from January 22, 2023, through the end of the 2024-25 season.
- Previously led the Kelowna Rockets from 2018 to 2020 with a record of 28-29-8-4.
- Scott Young:
- Assistant Coach since June 5, 2025.
- Previously served as Director of Player Personnel for three seasons.
- Spent five years with the Pittsburgh Penguins as Director of Player Development.
- Kevin Dean:
- Joined as Assistant Coach on June 5, 2025.
- Formerly an Assistant Coach with the Chicago Blackhawks for three seasons.
- Has 19 seasons of experience in coaching professional hockey.
- Brett McLean:
- Appointed on June 5, 2025.
- Head Coach for the Iowa Wild from 2023 to 2025.
- Previously an Assistant Coach with the Minnesota Wild (2020-23).
