Barco Confirms Strasbourg Departure Amid Chelsea’s Interest

Valentin Barco, a promising midfielder for Strasbourg, is set to leave the club amid strong interest from Chelsea. The 21-year-old Argentina international has reportedly caught the attention of Stamford Bridge officials, although no formal agreement has been finalized yet.
Barco’s Strasbourg Journey
Barco joined Strasbourg from Brighton for £7.9 million in January 2025. Since then, he has been impressive in Ligue 1. His departure is expected to pave the way for a six-year contract with Chelsea as preparations for the 2026-27 season begin.
Chelsea’s Summer Transfers
This would mark Chelsea’s second signing this summer. Striker Emanuel Emegha has already agreed to a move within the multi-club model, following the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. Since the beginning of last season, this would be the 13th transfer between the BlueCo clubs.
- Transfer fee for Barco: £7.9 million
- Expected contract length with Chelsea: 6 years
- Previous Chelsea transfers: Emanuel Emegha, Mike Penders, Geovany Quenda (£40 million), and Dastan Satpaev
Barco’s Farewell to Strasbourg
In a heartfelt social media statement, Barco expressed gratitude towards his teammates, staff, and the club’s fans. He acknowledged their support and the role they played in his development as a player.
As Chelsea prepares for the upcoming season under the guidance of new permanent manager Xabi Alonso, the addition of Barco could further strengthen their midfield options. The club remains active in the transfer market, eyeing additional talent to enhance their squad.
