Six Beaches in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Earn Blue Flag Honors

Six beaches in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire have received the prestigious Blue Flag honors, recognizing their exceptional water quality, safety, and environmental management. These awards celebrate the efforts made to maintain high standards along England’s coastline.

Blue Flag Beaches in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

The Blue Flag scheme, which promotes quality and environmental care at beaches, has highlighted the following locations:

  • Filey Beach
  • Porthcawl Beach
  • North Bay, Scarborough
  • Bridlington South
  • Saltburn Beach
  • Hastings Beach

Assessment Criteria

To achieve the Blue Flag status, these beaches underwent rigorous evaluations based on several criteria:

  • Water quality standards
  • Environmental management practices
  • Provision of safety services
  • Accessibility and information for visitors

Only beaches that meet the EU bathing water directive’s “excellent” water quality standard can earn the Blue Flag. This year, the announcement of award winners was made on a significant Friday, celebrating ongoing commitment to maintaining pristine beaches.

Seaside Award Recognition

In addition to Blue Flags, nine other beaches in Yorkshire received the Seaside Award, which recognizes sufficient water quality and safety. These include:

  • Bridlington North
  • Wilsthorpe
  • Cayton Bay
  • Runswick Bay
  • Robin Hood’s Bay
  • Sandsend
  • Whitby

The Seaside Award aims to elevate beach standards across England and has been running for 39 years. This initiative helps to enhance the overall visitor experience while promoting environmental responsibility.

Both awards reflect a collective effort to ensure that England’s coastlines remain clean, safe, and enjoyable for all visitors. The beaches recognized this year stand as exemplars of quality and environmental stewardship.
