Sabri Lamouchi Excludes Ferjani Sassi from Tunisia’s World Cup Squad

Tunisia’s national football team manager, Sabri Lamouchi, has made significant decisions regarding the squad for the upcoming World Cup. Notably, he has excluded midfielder Ferjani Sassi, a veteran player with 101 international caps. Sassi, who is 34 years old, is not alone in his omission; defender Yassine Meriah, with 95 caps, has also been left off the roster.
Key Exclusions from Tunisia’s World Cup Squad
These exclusions come as Lamouchi prepares for the tournament in North America. He previously left both players out during his initial matches as head coach, which included two friendlies against Haiti and Canada earlier this year.
Notable Inclusions in the Squad
In contrast, several players have been selected for the 26-man squad. Midfielder Rani Khedira has been added after changing his nationality in March. Khedira is the brother of German World Cup winner Sami Khedira.
- Hannibal Mejbri from Burnley
- Anis Ben Slimane of Norwich City
- Khalil Ayari, a promising forward from Paris St-Germain
Ayari, 21, is yet to make an appearance for PSG’s first team but has earned a spot in the national squad.
Tunisia’s World Cup Schedule
Tunisia will kick off their World Cup journey against Sweden on June 15. They are placed in Group F and will also face Japan and the Netherlands in the tournament.
This squad selection by Sabri Lamouchi marks an important phase as Tunisia aims to make a strong impression in the 2026 World Cup, hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
