Vienna Hosts Europe’s Largest Music Show
Vienna will host the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2026 on May 16, marking one of Europe’s largest music shows. The Grand Final will be broadcast live on ARD starting at 9 PM.
Event Overview
This year’s competition features 25 acts, including qualifiers from the semifinals and the “Big Four” countries. Denmark will open the show, followed closely by Germany’s Sarah Engels, performing her song “Fire.” Austria, as the host nation, will close the competition.

Countdown to the Final
Prior to the main event, a countdown show will air at 8:15 PM. Barbara Schöneberger will host this special program live from the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna, featuring guest appearances from renowned artists and ESC experts.
Semi-Finals Schedule
The first semi-final will take place on May 12, 2026, with the second semi-final on May 14, 2026. Both will be broadcast at 9 PM on ARD ONE and the ARD Mediathek. Notably, Sarah Engels will perform in the first semi-final.
Pre-Semi-Final Shows
On both semi-final dates, a pre-show will occur at 8:15 PM, hosted by Constantin Zöller. This will feature discussions about the competing acts with ESC specialists.
Aftershow and Accessibility
After the grand final, an aftershow led by Barbara Schöneberger will highlight the most memorable moments from the evening. This will begin at 1 AM on May 17 and will also be available on multiple networks.
Importantly, all ESC broadcasts will be made accessible. They will include subtitles, audio description, and interpretation in German Sign Language (DGS) and International Sign.
70 Years of ESC
A special documentary titled “70 Jahre ESC – More than Music” will celebrate the contest’s history, airing on May 11, 2026. It will feature notable participants and provide insights into the significance of the ESC beyond just music.
Public Viewing in Karlsruhe
To enhance community engagement, SWR will host a live music event with public viewing in Karlsruhe on May 16. Tickets are available for 10 EUR, and attendees can enjoy performances followed by a live screening of the ESC final.
