Sidra Amin Penalized for Violating ICC Conduct Code

Sidra Amin, the Pakistani cricketer, has recently faced disciplinary action from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a breach of the ICC Conduct Code. The violation pertains to Article 2.2, which addresses the misuse of cricket-related equipment and facilities during international matches.

Details of the Breach

This incident represents Amin’s first offence within a 24-month period. As a result, she received one demerit point for a Level 1 breach of the code.

The issue arose during a critical moment in the game, specifically when Amin, frustrated after being dismissed in the 40th over, struck her bat forcefully onto the pitch.

Match Officials Involved

Amin acknowledged her wrongdoing and accepted the sanction suggested by match referee Shandre Fritz. Consequently, no formal hearing was required.

The on-field officials included umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, alongside third umpire Kerrin Klaaste and fourth umpire Kim Cotton, who initiated the charge.

Penalties for Level 1 Offences

  • Minimum penalty: official reprimand
  • Maximum penalty: 50% of player’s match fee
  • Demerit points: one or two points

In the match against India, Pakistan faced a challenging defeat, bowled out for just 159 runs while chasing a target of 248. Sidra Amin was the standout performer, scoring 81 runs off 106 balls, though her efforts were ultimately insufficient.

This loss marks Pakistan’s second consecutive defeat in the World Cup. They are set to face Australia next, with the match scheduled for Wednesday.
