Police Hunt for Armed, Dangerous Suspects in Ginoogaming First Nation

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently on a manhunt for two armed and dangerous suspects in Ginoogaming First Nation. Residents are advised to avoid the area and shelter-in-place as police work to apprehend these individuals.
Suspect Descriptions and Precautions
The suspects are described as Black males. Key details regarding their appearance include:
- The taller suspect wears an all-grey jogging suit and has braided hair.
- The shorter suspect is dressed in black pants and black shoes.
Residents of Ginoogaming are urged to seek safety indoors. Those inside should lock all doors and windows and close their curtains to maintain security. The OPP recommends that anyone who sees the suspects should call 911 immediately and refrain from approaching them.
Emergency Measures and Public Safety
OPP have emphasized the importance of public safety during this incident. They have stated:
“We recognize the significant emotional impact sheltering-in-place can cause. The OPP is taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation.”
Furthermore, individuals driving in the vicinity are advised to avoid unnecessary stops and to refrain from picking up hitchhikers, particularly on Highway 11 near Longlac and Ginoogaming First Nation.
Community Impact and School Closures
The emergency situation has led to several service closures within the Municipality of Greenstone. The following services were halted on Wednesday:
- Friends of the North Daycare
- Seniors Centre
- Municipal Ward Office in Longlac
In terms of education, OPP announced that all public and Catholic elementary schools in Longlac and Long Lake #58 First Nation are closed. However, Geraldton Composite High School and B.A. Parker Public School in Geraldton remained open, as noted in a Facebook update. Confederation College’s Longlac campus is also closed for the day.

Initially, an emergency alert was issued for the community of Manitouwadge, but as of Wednesday morning, this alert has been lifted.
