Duran Duran Assert Right to Headline Glastonbury Festival

Simon Le Bon, the lead singer of Duran Duran, has reiterated that the band will only perform at Glastonbury Festival if they secure a headline slot on the renowned Pyramid Stage. Duran Duran, a band with nearly 50 years of experience, has played numerous prestigious venues across the UK. Nonetheless, they have yet to take the stage at Glastonbury, the country’s most illustrious music festival.
Duran Duran’s Glastonbury Aspirations
Despite receiving performance offers for Glastonbury, Le Bon has made it clear that these opportunities did not meet their standards. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, he stated, “We want to — but not in a disco tent at 3pm, which is what we were offered. We want the right slot.”
Le Bon emphasized that the band deserves top billing, saying, “We shouldn’t be below anybody on the bill.” He added firmly, “So, we’ll hold out because we’re a headline act — that’s all there is to it.”
Past Statements and Future Opportunities
This isn’t the first time Le Bon has conveyed his strong sentiments about headlining Glastonbury. In a 2023 interview with The Telegraph, he mentioned a personal vow: “A long time ago, I vowed I would never set foot in Glastonbury unless it was on the Pyramid Stage at a decent hour of the night.” He explained that despite various invitations, including offers to camp or arrive by helicopter, he has declined on principle.
Nick Rhodes, a fellow band member, confirmed their commitment to playing at Glastonbury, noting, “I believe they have our telephone number, we haven’t changed it.”
Upcoming Performances
While it seems unlikely for Duran Duran to headline Glastonbury soon, they are set to perform at Hyde Park as part of the BST festival. This highly anticipated concert will take place on July 5th and is expected to draw a crowd of up to 65,000 attendees. Special guests, the Scissor Sisters, will also join them for this event.
