Jet Greaves Cherishes Dream Realized with Team Canada Selection

Jet Greaves has recently achieved a significant milestone in his hockey career by earning a spot on Team Canada for the IIHF World Championships. His selection is a culmination of years of hard work and dedication, marked by personal growth and exceptional performances.
Jet Greaves’ Journey to Team Canada
Before this past week, Greaves had never visited Europe. His first stop in Paris was both exhilarating and surreal. Greaves shared his excitement about iconic sites, such as the Eiffel Tower and Roland Garros, the famed tennis arena.
Following Paris, Greaves traveled to Bern, Switzerland. The stunning views of the Alps and the Aare River offered a picturesque backdrop as he prepared for the upcoming IIHF World Championships.
World Championship Debut
Team Canada is set to begin its tournament against Sweden in Fribourg, Switzerland. Scheduled for 10:20 ET, this match marks an important initiation for Greaves, who plays as a goaltender for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Greaves’ path to this point has been anything but conventional. Six years ago, he struggled with the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League. A pivotal moment came when the Blue Jackets invited him to their rookie prospects tournament, setting the stage for his NHL journey.
A Rising Star
This season, Greaves boasted an impressive record of 26 wins, 19 losses, and 9 ties, featuring a .908 save percentage and a 2.60 goals-against average. He demonstrated his capabilities by securing the starting goalie position for the Blue Jackets, outperforming veteran goalie Elvis Merzlikins.
Greaves’ performance ranked him among the top goaltenders in the NHL. Notably, he achieved a remarkable feat, ranking third in wins among Canadian-born goaltenders.
Hockey Canada Recognition
Team Canada coach Misha Donskov highlighted Greaves as a primary target for the national roster. Donskov noted that after the Blue Jackets’ playoff elimination, the coaching staff quickly recognized Greaves’ potential and abilities.

Personal Reflections
Greaves reminisced about his childhood inspirations, particularly the influence of Carey Price during the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championships. He expressed the significance of representing Team Canada and how it has been a lifelong dream.
“Pulling on that sweater means the world to me,” Greaves reflected. “It’s vital to cherish these moments.” His genuine attitude and commitment to the team have not gone unnoticed, with teammates and coaching staff commending his character and dedication.
As the tournament unfolds, Greaves looks forward to capitalizing on this opportunity. With aspirations for future competitions, including potential participation in the 2030 Olympics, he remains focused on his development and contributions to the sport.
“I’m thankful for this chance,” Greaves said. “Every experience along the way has shaped me, and I’m eager for what lies ahead.”
