Dog Rescued from Rough Seas After Cliff Fall: Watch Now

The recent rescue of a dog from perilous conditions highlights the brave efforts of the RNLI Ilfracombe team. The incident occurred on May 15, 2023, around 4 PM when the dog fell from a path at Capstone in Ilfracombe, landing on the rocky shore below.
Rescue Operations at Capstone
When the HM Coastguard was alerted, they attempted to reach the stranded dog by land. Unfortunately, their efforts proved unsuccessful due to the rocky terrain. Consequently, the RNLI Ilfracombe was launched to attempt a maritime rescue.
Incredible Rescue Video
Footage captured during the rescue showed a dedicated RNLI volunteer bravely navigating harsh ocean conditions. As large waves crashed against the rocks, the rescuer successfully retrieved the dog. However, a powerful wave swept both the dog and the volunteer off the rocks into the water.
Safe Return
Despite the chaotic circumstances, the volunteer managed to help the dog swim to the inshore lifeboat, which was anchored nearby. Once aboard, the dog quickly dried off after shaking off the water. The RNLI team provided assistance in bringing the volunteer safely into the boat.
Public Reaction and Safety Message
Paul Craddock, who shared the video on social media, described the scene as “very upsetting.” He emphasized the importance of keeping dogs on a leash, especially in areas near cliffs, given that the dog had jumped over a wall before the fall.
Reunion with Owners
After the successful rescue operation, the RNLI Ilfracombe returned to the station and reunited the dog with its concerned owners. The lifeboat station later posted about the incident on social media, outlining the sequence of events and praising their crew’s swift response.
