M2 Closed Following Collision Between Lorry and Pedestrian

A serious collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian has led to the closure of a section of the M2 motorway. The accident occurred around 2 PM on May 14, affecting the coast-bound carriageway between Junction 3 (Blue Bell Hill) and Junction 4 (Gillingham).

Traffic Delays and Emergency Response

Following the incident, emergency services, including police, paramedics, and the Air Ambulance, arrived at the scene. The seriousness of the crash prompted National Highways to issue a statement confirming that investigations would lead to prolonged road closures throughout the afternoon and evening.

Current Traffic Conditions

  • As of 3:30 PM, delays reached 37 minutes.
  • Traffic congestion extended over two miles leading to the affected area.

Travelers are advised to use alternative routes to mitigate delays. National Highways traffic officers are currently assisting with closures and directing vehicles away from the affected area.

Recommended Diversion Route

Motorists are recommended to follow the Solid Circle diversion. The suggested route is as follows:

  • Exit the M2 at Junction 3.
  • Take the third exit to the A229.
  • Travel 300 meters to Lord Lee’s Roundabout and take the first exit onto A229 south towards Maidstone.
  • Continue south for approximately 2.5 miles to join the M20 eastbound at Junction 6.
  • Proceed eastbound for just over a mile and exit at M20 Junction 7.
  • Take the first exit onto A249 North.
  • Head north for about 5.5 miles to rejoin the M2 at Junction 5.

The Kent Fire and Rescue Service has been dispatched to support police efforts. Further information from the ambulance service is awaited regarding the status of individuals involved in the collision.
