Max Cook initially led the race but was overtaken by Kyle Ryde and Scott Redding at the Melbourne Loop on lap 14, as rain drops began to fall. Redding’s impressive pace shone through when he passed Ryde at the Old Hairpin on lap 18. Ryde’s mistake at Melbourne Loop allowed Cook to secure second place, as the weather deteriorated.
